After the velvet trend, the tartan trend is one that makes a comeback again. From sophisticated tartans to checks in grunge style, Scottish fabrics return to be the protagonists of the Autumn Winter 2017-18. The plaid designs is proposed for both woolen and bouclé outerwear, as well as in country chic or sophisticated jackets, pants, skirts, shirts and dresses.
The tartan, a traditional woolen fabric woven in checkered or striped (plaid) patterns, is a symbol of Scotland’s highland heritage, and one that is a source of inspiration for UK designers in particular. For some the Scottish pattern equals old-fashioned and for others, including myself, tartan evokes a warm feeling of nostalgia.
While checks and plaids may not have a permanent spot in the limelight, planet fashion regularly gets the Highland treatment and tartan has been known to take Chanel,Vivienne Westwood and Alexander Mcqueen runways by storm. It is a wardrobe must-have for most fashionistas and style conscious celebs have all been spotted in the plaid print. Why not making a tartan style statement yourself?
